Ocado Technology - Senior Software Developer (Routing Systems)
Ocado is a highly successful online grocery delivery business. Unlike its competitors, Ocado does not pick groceries from store shelves. Instead it has constructed a highly automated warehouse in Hatfield from where all its orders are fulfilled.
This is a senior role, contributing to delivering business critical projects, defining architecture and strategy and taking an active role in mentoring and training more junior members of the team.You will be responsible for the maintenance and improvement of our existing routing systems and driving future strategy for the improvement of those systems. The routing system continuously optimises Ocado's routes and provides delivery slots through web service interfaces.
Essential Candidate Requirements
Primary Languages
- Java
- SQL
Database
- Oracle RDBMS
Development Tools
- Netbeans/Eclipse, SQL Developer
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- 2:1 or First class degree in Computer Science or Joint Maths & Computing from good university
- Strong A-levels including A in Maths and either Physics, Further Maths or Computing
- Excellent programming ability with in-depth understanding of underpinning techniques
- Good understanding of the concepts behind code optimisation, algorithmic optimisation and/or complexity theory.
- Knowledge of heuristic optimisation algorithms, ideally those pertaining to routing
Desirable
- GIS/Spatial query experience
- Experience with route pathing and/or dealing with road network data
- Experience with high availability, distributed systems
- Experience with high performance code and architectures
Salary: Dependent on experience, plus Pension, Medical Cover, Critical Illness cover, Share Option, Share Save Scheme, 23 days holiday, 15% staff discount + others
