Spiced Christmas biscuits
You can use these charming ginger biscuits to decorate your Christmas tree.
Ingredients
- 225g plain flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 2 tsp ground mixed spice
- 50g butter
- 50g soft dark brown sugar
- 125g treacle
- icing and silver balls to decorate

Cooking time: 45 mins

Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C/ Gas 4. Lightly grease 2 baking sheets. Sift the flour, baking powder and spices into a bowl. Place the butter, sugar and treacle in a pan and melt over a gentle heat, stirring to mix.
- Add the melted butter mixture to the bowl and stir until the mixture forms a dough. Knead briefly until smooth. Roll out on a lightly floured surface to about the thickness of a £1 coin, and cut into shapes.
- Re roll the dough scraps and continue cutting until all the dough is used. If you wish to thread ribbon through the biscuits, make a small hole in them before baking.
- Arrange on the baking sheets and cook for about 15 minutes until golden and firm. Leave on the baking tray for 5 minutes before placing on a wire rack to cool fully before icing.
