An award-winning British soft cheese, with a golden curd and long-lasting, earthy flavours - very similar to a Brie de Meaux
Baron Bigod is handmade on Fen farm in Suffolk where the Crickmore family have been farming for three generations. Their herd of Montbeliarde cows graze the beautiful marshlands of the Waveney River Valley and their delicious milk is used to make the finest artisan cheeses by cheesemaker Jonathan Crickmore.
Baron Bigod is the product of three years of learning, travel and experimentation creating a unique and delicious Brie like cheese. The cheese is made on the farm in small batches very early in the morning, after the cows have been milked. The warm milk straight from the cows is perfect for cheese making and it is made just meters from the milking parlour.
Looking for a drinks pairing? Sparkling wines are fantastic with soft and oozy cheeses. Baron Bigod is a strongly flavoured cheese so try pairing with a richer flavoured English sparkling wine.
Paxton & Whitfield is the UK's oldest cheesemonger and celebrated its 225th birthday in 2022. The company has held the Royal Warrant of Appointment to every reigning monarch since Queen Victoria in 1850 and prides itself on sustainable sourcing and maturation of the finest cheeses from the UK and across the continent.
'Baron Bigod is a Brie-style cheese from the glorious Fen Farm in East Anglia, although I feel it has a very particular scent and taste of its own: rich and buttery, certainly, but with a light lemony tang as well. I take it out of the fridge and leave it out (in a coolish place, to be sure) for long enough for it to ripen bulgingly, so that the thick creamy interior threatens to break out of the pale, soft rind that encases it. Since it’s a British not a French cheese, it’s pronounced not Baron Bee-go (I mention this only as I’ve heard it thus called) but, very pleasingly, Baron By-God!' Nigella Lawson

Gorgeous cheese
So delighted Ocado are now stocking this, it's a great favourite. A bit like Camembert but with more flavour. I most like to eat it on crispy bread with slices of saucisson.

Good but really expensive
This is a very nice, brie/camembert type cheese. Made here which is great but, for the size, it's really pricy and not much different from a good quality camembert for around £3.00 A lovely slice of Somerset brie does the job at a fraction of the cost.
