Oven - Slow Cook 4-5 hours
Electric 140°C, Fan 120°C, Gas 2
This gentle slow cooking process is a combination of roasting and steaming and transforms the meat as the fibres relax and soak up the moisture and any flavours from the cooking liquor. This results in succulent meat and a base for a flavoursome gravy. Heat 1 tsp of oil in a frying pan over a high heat. Add diced vegetables (carrots, celery, onion) and soften. Place into a deep roasting tray. Oil and season surface of meat and sear all over in a hot frying pan. Place the joint on top of the vegetables. Add approximately 500ml stock to cover half the joint, cover with foil and place in the oven. Remove foil for last 10 mins of cooking.
Baste the joint with the cooking juices and return to oven. Remove from the oven, wrap the joint in foil and rest for 15 mins before carving. For best results carve thinly. Do not reheat.
To make a gravy from the stock, place the cooking liquid into a pan on a high heat. Add cornflour, bring to the boil and simmer for 3 mins.

delicious
Cooked this on roast in the air fryer for 50 minutes, left to rest in foil for 15 minutes, beautiful, tender and moist. Have bought this a few times now and always had a great result
easy to cook
This cooks beautifully but just roasting this cut of meat is always going to give unpredictable results. Much better to brown it all over then put potatoes carrots, onion, stock, mustard, red wine, red wine vinegar and cornflower with this joint on top. Cover with a lid or foil and cook on medium for 4 hours and it will fall apart
great Sunday lunch
Cooked rare and proved popular with family including octogenarians who can be hard to please. Tasty and good value
beef roasting joint
I cooked the beef according to the instructions but it was so tough that I could barely cut it. We all had to throw it away so had no meat for our Easter dinner. I tried to get a refund but really didnt want to rake through the bins to get the receipt or packaging. Very disappointed and hungry.
Tough and Tastless
Worst piece of meat ever came across. My dinner guests weren't even sure if it was pork or beef or....? I would not recommend this mystery meat. Definitely not worth the price!
Awful
Cooked according to instructions, seasoned well and little oil, 25 mins then a further 40 covered. Had absolutely no roasting meat aroma whilst cooking and no rich juices coming out. Rested for 20 mins… sliced as thinly as possible and nicely blushing inside but was quite tough and absolutely no flavour whatsoever. Very expensive mistake, will stick to Sainsburys or local butcher in future.
