The more we grow the greener we get

OCADOLIFE 04 - October 2008

We founded this business on a passionate belief that we could create a sustainable alternative to supermarket shopping and we’ve always been pleased that so many of our customers share our determination to be green. It’s one of the reasons we were thrilled when an independent audit confirmed that shopping at Ocado is just as green as walking to the supermarket.

We know - it sounds strange, doesn’t it? But whereas traditional retailers have to keep opening new stores to expand their business, we’ve still got plenty of room in our warehouse. So as we continue to grow, our carbon emissions per pound of sales will keep going down. Quite simply, that means that the more people use our service, the greener we’ll become.

When you think about it, it’s only natural that leaving the car at home and letting us deliver your groceries is a great way to reduce your personal mileage. Our low-emission vans keep up to 20,000 cars off the road every single day, something that was recognised at the recent Online Green Awards, where we won an award for our revolutionary green approach to selling groceries.

With this in mind, make sure you support Organic Fortnight between 6th and 21st September. It’s the annual event organised by the Soil Association to champion all things organic. We stock one of the largest ranges of organic groceries in the UK, so it’s easy to join in - just add a few organic products to your trolley and help support a better, more sustainable world. You could also make your mark on World Car-Free Day (www.worldcarfree.net) this 22nd September by encouraging friends to switch to Ocado?
