Talking about a revolution

OCADOLIFE 09 - April 2009

As a rule, we don’t like to shout about the clever and often unique things we do here at Ocado. Not that we’re shrinking violets; we just think our award-winning service speaks for itself.

But we’re keenly aware that, as the first new UK supermarket in a generation, we’ve picked up a bit of a reputation for doing things differently. Like, say, deciding to deliver your groceries from a climate-controlled warehouse instead of a chain of stores, because you end up with fresher food and better service that way.

Because we’re independent, we can focus on keeping prices low and delivering incredible service. Our competitors might have to stick to the tried and trusted in the current economic climate but, if anything, the credit crunch has given us even more motivation to innovate.

Furthermore, we believe that we were the first online grocer in the world to display ‘use-by’ dates for fresh produce, helping you to plan your weekly shop and cut down on waste). Also, the first UK retailer to introduce ‘closed loop’ recycling (ie. we collect, recycle and remake our own carrier bags right here in the UK). And… oh, you get the picture…

For us, the hardest thing is keeping quiet about all the exciting things we’ve got planned for the future, from shopping on your mobile phone to innovative new green initiatives to… well, you’ll just have to wait and see!

Ocado Co-Founder
