Not for dumplings.
I've tried using this a few times, as Ocado don't stock the original. I can see that it would be useful for making veggie mincemeat but in my opinion it's not good for dumplings. They definitely have a different taste and texture. Please stock the original too!

Did not like at all
Have used the full fat version of this vegetarian suet for many years with great results. This is not a good substitute and I would suggest using the full fat version but making less if calories are a concern

As good as the original
Makes brilliant dumplings - you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between this and the meat variety and it behaves in just the same way in use.

Great alternative to animal products
As most of my family and friends do not eat red meat, this vegetable suet has been a blessing over the last few years. We mainly use it to make mince meat just before Christmas each year. As well as making mince pies that are tasty for both carnivores and vegetarians, we also pack some into gift-wrapped jars and share then with family and friends.
Recipes
Baked Jam Roll
This traditional English pudding was originally steamed in a cloth or shirt sleeve, but baking makes the crust crisper. You can use any jam, but raspberry works particularly well.

Turkey and Mushroom Stew with Dumplings
Cheat... You can prepare the dumpling mix a few hours ahead of time and keep it in the refrigerator until ready to cook. Cook's Notes You can use any kind of poultry for this dish - try chicken thighs, on the bone, or pork. Remember to remove the bay leaves before serving.

Christmas Pudding
The last Sunday before advent is known as Stir-up Sunday because it's the day to get cracking on the Christmas pudding. Why not give our traditional recipe a try this November?

perfect
I can tell no difference between this and the original meat based version which my mum used to buy many years ago, dumplings taste the same, suet based desserts and pastry taste the same etc. I find for dumplings it does work better if you ignore the packet directions and instead follow a ratio of roughly four sixths suet to six sixths self raising flour, and then add quite a lot of water so the dumpling batter has to be dropped in by spoon, this creates light, fluffy and very tasty dumplings particularly if you grill them lightly on the top when the dish has finished cooking. I often make vegan cheesy dumplings with this and they are always a hit.
