Product Description

The original Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

What if we planted Sauvignon Blanc grapes in a region once thought too cold to grow grapes? Asking this very question led us to produce the world's first Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc at our Brancott Vineyard. Sometimes, the greatest discoveries in life come from being curious.

Sourced from a range of Marlborough vineyards, this Sauvignon Blanc presents an exhilarating blend of ripe tropical and nettle flavours, while white stone fruit and grapefruit notes complements its fresh acidity. Indulge your curiosity.
Best served lightly chilled.

Alc. 12.5% vol.
9.4 UK Units
Bold, ripe aromas of fresh cut grass and passion fruit. A dry, fresh, fruit-driven wine with intense flavours.

Brancott Estate wines are considered the benchmark of New Zealand varietal winemaking and have an international reputation for quality and consistency. The wines are crafted in a style that epitomises the unique character and flavour of the growing region. As the original pioneers of this region, Brancott Estate's understanding of Marlborough and the variety is unparalleled. They have unrivalled experience in harnessing the potential of its three main subregions. Most of the grapes were crushed and left in contact with the skins for a few hours to provide strength and fullness of flavour. The juice was then fermented at cool temperatures to retain the very distinctive regional and varietal characters.

History

Brancott Vineyard is our original Marlborough Vineyard and inspiration behind our name. With its special combination of soil, sun and climate, this is where we first pioneered our countrys most internationally-acclaimed varietal - Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

Regional Information

Marlborough has had another excellent growing season with dry conditions for most of the harvest. A warm November and December set up good flowering and fruit set, and until mid-February the season was tracking much earlier than the long term average. Although rain was experienced in late April, this had little effect on the vintage as most of the fruit had already been harvested.

Vinification Details

Most of the grapes harvested for this wine were gently bag pressed off to achieve fresh, clear and elegant juice. Some were crushed and left in contact with the skins for a few hours to increase the extraction process and to provide strength and fullness of flavour. The juice was then fermented slowly at cool temperatures to retain the very distinctive regional and varietal characters.

What has happened to this wine?

Used to enjoy this wine but the new vintage just tastes and smells burnt. Really nasty.

awful

This bottle was so bad even my husband (who doesn't drink) thought the actual bottle of wine was off. It smelled horrendous and was undrinkable. The taste wasn't just not nice it was actually punishment. One of only two wines I've ever dumped out in my life. Yuck. Even on sale I'd suggest you Find something else.

sharp and acidic

I love Sauv Blancs but this is not nice at all. Sharp, acidic and, as another reviewer said, has an unpleasant alcohol taste. Not good even at the reduced price. There are plenty of other much better Sauv Blancs on the market.

Our Sauvignon of choice

Best tasting Sauvignon we've found to date, only ever buy it on offer though as anything over £10 would be a real luxury!

best in price bracket

As this is regularly around £8 I'd say it's the best Sauv Blanc in the price bracket. Fresh and tasty. I gave some to colleagues at Christmas and they're all now fans!

You'll love this combination of poached salmon and crispy sugar snap peas for a tasty summer salad - a great alternative to coleslaw.
