Cloudy Bay
Quality is our obsession, our hallmark, and our promise. We know making exceptional wines takes acute attention to detail in all aspects of wine production. In the vineyards, our yields are around 30% lower than the regional average. In the winery, we use technology, taste and experience to select only the best grapes for each wine. It might mean fewer bottles, but it always means better wine. Beyond the quality of our wines, we care most about protecting this place we call home. Cloudy Bay is a founding member of Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand. In Central Otago, our vineyards are farmed organically. Selected Estate blocks in Marlborough are trialing organic practices to roll out across the remaining vineyards.

Grape Variety
Chardonnay
Tasting Notes
Complex flavours of cashew nut, lemon and nectarine with subtle grapefruit and white floral notes. Layered with a bold complexity of ripe fruit and spicy, smoky oak. The combined texture of fruit density and lees is balanced by fresh and firm acidity
History
The Cloudy Bay story is one of adventure. After a single sip in 1983, David Hohnen was captivated by Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. In 1985, he launched Cloudy Bay with a vision for making New Zealand wines of uncompromising quality. It's been that way ever since.
Regional Information
Our Chardonnay comes from a combination of vineyards, chosen for their complementary soil types. The warm gravelly soils of the Wairau Valley and the cooler clay soils of the Southern Valleys are used in unison to provide a great balance of ripeness and elegance. The key vineyards include Mustang, Brookby, Valhalla and Widows, with clones used across the B95, 15, 2/23, 548 and Mendoza Blocks.

Vinification Details
After gently pressing, the juice was settled and racked before being transferred to French oak barriques (of which 20% were new) and new 6-kilolitre cuves. After fermentation, the wine rested in barrel for 11 months before blending. 100% of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation.

Creamy yet fresh
Love the new label - this is great for anti Chardonnay drinkers due to its citrus freshness :) Super creamy at the same time.
