these British-reared laying hens thrive on the freedom of their outdoor life and are kept in small flocks on the open pastures of family runs farms.
The Columbian Blacktail hen is a speciality breed prized for the rich flavour of its eggs which have strong shells and excellent keeping qualities. A cross between Rhode Island Red and other traditional British farmyard hens, they were bred solely to supply Waitrose eggs.

Eggs are Eggs

Buy these because they are Free Range, they tast of egg, they fry, scramble, boil and make nice omlettes so no complaints...

Much better than "Essentials"

We had always bought the Waitrose Essentials Eggs but fancied a change. Wow... The yolk is much more vibrant and the flavour is superb! Will be buying these all the time from now on.

Not very fresh

Yolks Dark with dark spots whites runny not very good quality for Free Range eggs. Delivered on the 18th July use by date 5th Aug Wont Buy again.

Great eggs.

They're great eggs. Tastes good. I make tiramisu and souffle's with them. But, upon ordering it, the packers seem to think the eggs are not fragile and packed them with bottles. Last delivery I had with these eggs, 5 were broken. So, I usually end up buying them off the shelf at Waitrose most times.

Great flavour but shells weak

These have the taste of free range but not the shells to match. It is hard to crack them cleanly when baking as the shells fragment. I suggest trying more grit in the poor birds diet.
