Product Description

Daylesford Organic Dry Cured Smoked Streaky Bacon
We love the flavour of the bacon these animals produce. It comes from pigs grown slowly, always outdoors.

- The pigs are born in outdoor arks bedded with straw, and spend their entire lives out in the pastures;
- Cured without the adddition of nitrates or nitrites;
- Organically-reared pigs are fed a GM-free diet: kinder to the animal and better for us.

Cuts Getting Thicker

Previously this was our absolute favourite, having tried many different free range smoked bacon. Recently the cuts have been getting thicker, which is great for some, but not us. So we've stopped buying and are on the hunt for a new weekly buy. Flavour wise this really is good bacon. Would love them to go back to how it was cut.

best bacon we've had from Ocado!

I don't understand why this product has had bad reviews! I have found it doesn't leak water when cooked, has a lovely natural smokey flavour and best of all isn't excessively salty - great for the kids

natural product

We really like this bacon - tastes as bacon should cured traditionally and without unnecessary additives or pesticides!

Not what I expected

The description of this bacon lead me to believe it was going to be of high quality. As it is not pumped with nitrates it cooks to a grey colour as opposed to the more common pink, however it still seemed to leak lot's of water. Most butchers bacon in my experience tends to fry dry, as opposed to supermarket bacon which is generally wetter. The grain of the bacon shows that the pig has had a decent life but the taste is rather bland, particularly the smoke. Somewhere along the production line this bacon looses it's qualities.

Disapointing - is it really dry cured?

Really disappointed by this, usually Daylesford and Laverstock who provide the pork produce great products, but this isn't one of them. When frying a lot of water leached out of the bacon - something you usually get with cheap bacon that's been cured by brining rather than dry curing. Either this wasn't dry cured long enough, or it has at some point been brined. Had two packs delivered in the order, and both were the same. Not worth the money.
