Bread does not rise in baking machine

Very poor quality, cannot be used in a baking machine despite stating so on the packet. The loafs do not rise and the bread is ruined. A waste of money - and unfortunately for me I bought several packs of this flour!

No longer strong enough for bread

If, like me, you have suddenly had problems with wholemeal loaves not rising, the reason is apparently the current quality of European flour. I have switched to the Canadian strong wholemeal and can now bake perfect loaves again (albeit for a higher cost).

Just as good as organic

For years I bought the Waitrose organic wholemeal flour, but decided to try this and it's just as good. I use it for baking wholemeal bread. Nobody can tell the difference.

Does the job

Good value wholemeal flour. I haven't tested any recipes on its own yet, but with a 50/50 mixture with two different white flours it's given perfect results so far in my bread machine.

great for making bread with!

This is not quite as good as the more expensive Canadian strong stuff but with a pinch more yeast the results are excellent and definitely worth the price cut. Loverly!

This recipe is based on a very old Sussex recipe known as ‘Hikers' brunch’ or Sussex Sausage Rolls. You can use other fillings to make the rolls really interesting and a surprise to bite into. Good food when you’re on the move, they are useful to take if you have an early start to eat part way through your journey.
