Product Description
GAIL's Spelt Sunflower Loaf
As diehard bakers, we love wheat; but we know that not everyone celebrates it the way we do. This clever little loaf is made from spelt, an ancient ancestor of wheat with a higher nutritional value. It's a great alternative if you're after a healthy loaf, but it's not gluten-free.
About GAIL's
GAIL's believes in the art of honest breadmaking. We start with just four simple ingredients: flour, water, salt and yeast, and we never add artificial colours or flavours. Instead, we seek out the best ingredients from where they're best, whether it's hand-peeled Bramley apples from Britain, single source unsalted butter from France, or plump juicy olives from Mediterranean groves. All our loaves are made by hand too, so we never need to add the stabilisers and preservatives that are an unavoidable fact of industrialised bread.
Our selection of classic and globally-inspired artisanal breads includes a range of sourdoughs made from 15-year old wild yeast starters. Allowed to rise slowly and naturally, these loaves take 48 hours to make and possess a mature taste and character that a mechanically processed loaf couldn't hope to match.

Too small
The loaf is just too small and the texture is a little weird when it's not toasted. It's not bad, but I wouldn't buy it again.

Recipe altered to lesser quality
Weve been buying this delicious spelt and sunflower loaf for years but our most recent order of this bread on 11 April 2013 we noticed a huge difference in taste and appearance, and its not as we have always enjoyed it. There are less sunflower seeds and the dough is lighter. The bread toasts up in a crispier way suggesting the oil content has changed or altered. It was also lighter in weight. Such a shame to lower the quality a perfectly good and substantial loaf of bread. The price has also increased. We wont be buying this anymore.

Excellent
As someone who's not permitted bread this is a fantastic treat, especially with a bit of goat cheese. The trick is to EAT IT WHEN FRESH. Also store it in an air tight container to make the freshness last - I learned the hard way how quickly it goes off.
