Product Description

GAIL's Three Seed Spelt Bread

Hugely healthy, our Three Seed Spelt Bread combines ancient spelt - a more nutritious ancestor of modern wheat - with a nutty blend of sesame seeds, poppy seeds and sunflower seeds that run through every slice. On top, you'll find nigella seeds and fennel seeds too for an extra crunchy and colourful crust.

About GAIL's
GAIL's believes in the art of honest breadmaking. We start with just four simple ingredients: flour, water, salt and yeast, and we never add artificial colours or flavours. Instead, we seek out the best ingredients from where they're best, whether it's hand-peeled Bramley apples from Britain, single source unsalted butter from France, or plump juicy olives from Mediterranean groves. All our loaves are made by hand too, so we never need to add the stabilisers and preservatives that are an unavoidable fact of industrialised bread.

Our selection of classic and globally-inspired artisanal breads includes a range of sourdoughs made from 15-year old wild yeast starters. Allowed to rise slowly and naturally, these loaves take 48 hours to make and possess a mature taste and character that a mechanically processed loaf couldn't hope to match.

Product Information

Ideally, store in your GAIL's paper bag. You can freeze the bread for one month, but never refrigerate.

This rich, firm loaf makes the perfect egg mayo sandwich, but has plenty more to offer. Chop into squares for robust cream cheese and smoked salmon canapés, or for a more satisfying snack, slice lengthwise and drape with ribbons of smoked meat

Healthy, tasty, delicious toasted with spinach and a runny poached egg. Seeds are delicious too

Small is not always best

Bought this as an emergency loaf because I didn't have time to bake one. Disappointed in the squatness. Why is it so squat?? I use spelt most weeks to bake bread and have a lovely light fairly normal size loaf. Also it doesn't toast properly. Won't buy it again I'd rather make a quick spelt soda loaf instead.

ANY tinier and will be a Hovis loaf shaped roll!

When I originally reviewed this bread on 22 August 2012 - I said that having followed other reviewers advice, kept within the paper bag, then placed inside a freezer bag and stored on top shelf of the fridge, it lasted over 3 days and I really enjoyed the different flavour of the seeds. It is very expensive for a 'small' loaf, but as it was on 'special offer' this week for just over £2, I thought I would treat myself again. Wish that I hadn't though, as what has been delivered today cannot be described as a 'small' loaf because it is just TOO tiny!! Remember those little HOVIS loaves we were given as kids - really just little bread shaped rolls, but which we sliced up like the real ones for dolls tea parties? Well if this loaf got any smaller then it would be just like those, back in the 1950/60's!!! The one delivered today is not much larger than a M&S torpedo roll - just about 4" long!! So have asked for a refund as it is not even large enough to cover two meals!!! I really don't understand why this should be NOR why Gail's the bakery's bread should be quite as dear as it is for the size loaves which they produce. The bread IS nice, but really not sure it is good value for money any more. Will think long and hard before buying this again...

If you store this bread carefully....

...it won't be hard and dry. When you receive the bread, place it and its bag right into a large, zip lock bag and either freeze it or place it in your bread box or on your shelf. It will keep for a week unfrozen and will be good to the final slice. It's great toasted, especially with extra virgin olive oil.
