An unassuming bread that's a real kitchen hero. We took our delicious baguette recipe, gave it a convenient bloomer shape and smothered it top to bottom with tasty poppy seeds. Easy to use; glorious to gobble.

GAIL's believes in the art of honest breadmaking. We start with just four simple ingredients: flour, water, salt and yeast, and we never add artificial colours or flavours. Instead, we seek out the best ingredients from where they're best, whether it's hand-peeled Bramley apples from Britain, single source unsalted butter from France, or plump juicy olives from Mediterranean groves. All our loaves are made by hand too, so we never need to add the stabilisers and preservatives that are an unavoidable fact of industrialised bread.

Our selection of classic and globally-inspired artisanal breads includes a range of sourdoughs made from 15-year old wild yeast starters. Allowed to rise slowly and naturally, these loaves take 48 hours to make and possess a mature taste and character that a mechanically processed loaf couldn't hope to match.

Dry and really hard. Also very small. Not good.

A regular purchase for years

We get this loaf off and on as we love using it for toast. It has an interesting taste for a white bread, not dull and boring like some loaves. The only problem is the poppy seeds escape everywhere and you keep finding them even after you think you've done a thorough clean.

Terrible purchase.

Just got this bread delivered this morning thinking how delicious it would but oh how wrong I was. I used a brand new very sharp bread knife to cut it and not even that could cut through the crust on top easily so how the hell will teeth be able to chew it!? Its almost impossible to chew, would be so easy to loose a tooth eating this! The crust is also very burnt just to top it off and I absolutely hate burnt bread so I think this will have to go in the bin. Overall terrible bread, not impressed at all especially for the price!!!

Cook It!

Makes the most delicious bread and butter pudding. You may need two loaves. Slice thinly half inch and then butter slices both sides. Now layer sideways but add raspberry jam between each slice as you go. Next whip two heaped tablespoons of sugar, or equivalent sugar substitute to taste, 3 good eggs, and one third each of double cream, milk and good custard. Pour over but you need to just cover the top of the bread so vary the amount if needed. Pour this over the bread and allow to settle for 30 minutes. Bake in a hot oven 150c for 45 minutes but keep checking! Should be golden brown and set. Allow to cool for half an hour and serve the most delicious pudding on the planet! Enjoy.

Nothing like fresh bread

Had a loaf delivered friday eve to use for saturday lunch,expecting it to be fresh bread, it was well chilled,heavy & did not feel too fresh on arrival. We had it for lunch and it was like eating a peice of foam covered in poppy seeds. Very disappointing.
