bruised
The first time I bought these there was just one bruised which I figured could not be helped but the next time every single apple was bruised. Will give one more try to see if anything has improved...

alway badly bruised, end up throwing them away. you can buy better apples down the market , they are bigger, juicier and you get loads and they are half the price.

Poor value for money
I buy these most weeks and I usually end up asking for a refund as one or more apples looks like they have been used as footballs! Poor value for money, but there is little choice when it comes to this variety in store.

Variation Use fine rice noodles instead of the cabbage if you prefer.

Portuguese Apple Fritters
These light, batter-coated rings contain sweet, soft apple, with the aromatic flavours of aniseed and cinnamon. Good with vanilla ice cream, as a dessert, or just as they are with a cup of strong black coffee.

Panfried Apples with Grappa
The autumn chills bring the start of the apple season. My favourite apples are called ranuncola in Italy, or at least, the market traders in Via Metauro in Rome always used that name for slightly squat, very rounded red apples with a streaked effect on the skin. I remember going to the market for fruit on those freezing mornings and being amazed at the way old newspapers were used by the traders to line their clothes in order to keep warm. These are best served straight from the oven for breakfast, but are also good in lunchboxes or with afternoon tea.

Christmas Pudding with Tropical Fruit and Rum
This is a delicious, lighter alternative to traditional Christmas pudding, prepared in just 20 minutes.
