Mmmmmm.
Love leafy veg. It goes yellow if you don't use it within a day or two, but that aside. Great substitute in a stir fry if you're fresh out of asian veg. Mmm.

Generally good
This product comes from different suppliers according to the time of year. Throughout the later summer months, it was from the UK. The rest of the year it seems to come from Spain. I buy a pack once or twice a week. Generally it's good, but it can vary. Sometimes there's more than the stated weight on the pack and there's an abundance of chard, sometimes it's slightly under. It's usually a mixture of tough, larger leaves, which nevertheless cook up well, and tender smaller leaves. Very often however, I find that if I leave it until the end of the use-by period, some leaves and stalks have gone limp. I've therefore started using it immediately it arrives. Sometimes the tough, larger leaves have holes in and when I discovered a small caterpillar in one pack, which had survived a few days in the fridge, I realised why! However, every pack I've had has been usable and enjoyable to eat, so i would feel happy to recommend it.

Twice bitten, now shy...
I love chard and this was through the summer a great product. However, the last bunch was half yellow and smelt damp. The one before that was half wet mush and refunded.

Off colour Chard
Normally this is very fresh and dark green for 2-3 days after purchase. However, my the latest packet had half green and half yellowish leaves. I did wait two days before eating it but it was still within the use by date. Would recommend eating on same day.
Recipes
Chunky Ratatouille
Cook's Note Chop the vegetables smaller if you prefer; the ratatouille will stew down a little quicker. Variation Swap the Swiss chard for spinach or even Savoy cabbage.

Swiss Chard and Gruyère Cheese Tart
Variation If you can’t find Swiss chard, use the same amount of fresh spinach.
1 hr 15 mins
Filo Pie with Swiss Chard, Ricotta Cheese, and Tomatoes
Cook's Note Always work quickly with filo, and don’t let it dry out because it becomes very brittle.

Shaun Hill's Smoked Salmon with Chard and Dill Pancakes
The pancakes in this dish represent a simpler version of a blini and contain a combination of smoked dill and chard. Replace the smoked salmon with kippers for a cheaper alternative.
30 mins
Roasted Salmon with Swiss Chard and Herb Butter
Variation Serve up curly kale or spinach instead of chard.

Yum
A few negative reviews here but you have to know how to treat and cook chard. Use as soon as possible it is a very fast growing vegetable so if you had it on your allotment you would need to harvest it daily.Dont be tempted to boil it to death a lovely earthy taste almost beetroot like. Stir fry quickly with a few sweet onions is best.
