Not So Good

Didn't turn golden brown - just burnt.

Our lot love these.

We've been buying these for years and though they're not the best chips out there, they're low fat, oven cook and nice enough. Being low fat however means they easily dry out and can be awful if cooked according to the instructions. Try cooking these at 180 - less than the packet says - and take out before they go very brown but are crisp yet give way to a prod with the finger. The important thing with these is to wrap them in foil and let them sit in their own steam for 5 minutes. Sounds like a faff but we cook them on foil and just wrap them straight up in that as we dish up the rest of dinner, and they are beautifully soft, fluffy, and much more like chip shop chips than you'll believe possible. Personally I far prefer the McCain fries, and I've tried switching from these a few times but my lot don't like any others. They do however complain if my trick above isn't applied as they come out hard and dry.

Disappointing

Dry chips lacking in flavour. These chips were not enjoyable and we will not purchase again.

Bad potatoes

Quality is slipping woefully on these. Opened the bag and threw about quarter away, due to bad potatoes - rotten ends, potatoes full of "eyes". Also bags are often full of more bits and pieces, rather then complete chips. Will be looking elsewhere I think from now on.

Worst chips I've ever had

The title says it all. Tasted sour and flat, terrible texture. McCains normal fries are great though.

Steak Diane

Steak Diane video

Steak Diane is one of Simon’s most popular recipes from Sunday Brunch so he has chosen to revisit it for the Daily Brunch viewers. It is a classic meaty restaurant dish, which is surprisingly quick and easy to make at home – perfect for impressing a date. Because the beef is the centre of the dish, Simon recommends using good quality aged steak. Part of our Daily Brunch with Ocado recipe collection.
