Puy lentils.

These lentils taste great, keep their shape and texture when cooked and can be used as an alternative to rice, pasta or potatoes. "Puy" refers to the region of South-Central France where the lentils are grown. There's no need to pre-soak these lentils, so all you have to do is cook them for around 20 minutes and enjoy.

Store in a cool, dry place.

Prepare & Use

Hob - From Ambient. No need to pre-soak. Rinse lentils under running water then drain. Put the lentils in a saucepan and cover with 3 times their volume of water (try using vegetable stock, or half wine for extra flavour). Bring to the boil, then simmer for 20-25 minutes until the lentils are firm to the bite. Drain and serve.

Can't review flavour because they contain gluten

Bought these without checking for gluten content first. But why would you, it's a single product and a legume, not a grain! Had to chuck them out - grrrrh. All other reviewers say they taste good so I'm sure they do, but at this price I would expect them not to be contaminated. Obviously I can't make a direct comparison but for a coeliac the Waitrose Love Life lentils seem a very good substitute.

The best!

As a french girl, I can't cook other lentils than Puy lentils! I have tried other varieties but I always go back to Puy lentils! They are quick and easy to cook, they remain firm but creamy inside. Worth every penny!

Puy lentils are the best...

...if you want the lentils to retain their firmness without being hard, and these Merchant Gourmet ones are as good as you can get. Try them and you'll never use anything else.
