Product Description

Nduja is perhaps the ultimate salami from Calabria, and the most fiery. Originally from Monte Poro, near Capo Vaticano, it is now widespread throughout the region, loved for its intense flavour and beautiful texture, which is spreadable.

Its name is etymologically related to andouille, the French tripe sausage, even though most sources agree this salami was probably introduced into Calabria by the Spanish. Strong and marked in flavour, but at the same time quite smooth and tender, the Nduja is prepared by hand from finely minced cuts of select pork, skilfully seasoned, and packed into natural sausage skins. The flavour is at first quite sweet, then explodes with the full force of Calabrian chilli pepper.

Excellent spread on toasted bread. Also makes a super fast and delicious pasta sauce. Simply put some in a pan, heat and it will dissolve into a sauce - to this you can add black cabbage, pancetta, etc

great in everything!

This can be used in just about any tomato based dish adding a certain spice and richness to its base. 10/10 for me.

Not what I expected

I was looking forward to a normal pate. I must say I didn't like it much. I was expecting to get more of a taste of pork, which never came through, only the heat. Does not look very apertising. Sorry not for me.

What a discovery!

Bought this on the basis of other reviews, really good used as a spread,but when you cook with it, wow! I melt it in a pan with chorizo and cream cheese or Quark with a bit of Parmesan and red onion and add your favourite pasta (I used slim water spaghetti, only 21 calls per pack), now absolutely addicted. Highly recommended if you are looking for something away from the norm to do with pasta.

unappetizing end cuts

It is rather spicy, so a little goes a long way. Has a funny aftertaste as well that I cannot really describe and which I have never tasted in nduja abroad. Maybe it would be better mixed with tomato sauce as other reviewers have explained. Apart from that, my biggest problem with the product is that nduja is meant to be eaten as a spread on bread -so not usually cooked-, as such I would normally put in on the table so people can just help themselves with a knife. But unfortunately, every single time I order this item I am sent an incredibly unappetizing and unpresentable looking 'knobbly' end cut. For now I have given up and will buy from local deli instead.
