Product Description

Variety: Lucinda

Datterini tomatoes are by far the sweetest tomatoes and have a lovely inviting aroma. Sourced exclusively from Sicily, we tend to work with three growers to cover the whole year. Without question the preferred tomato of the chefs we supply, it is in a league of its own.

Please note: We have spent many years working with our growers of datterini to choose the very best variety for flavour. Most commercially grown tomatoes are bred for certain characteristics - particularly high yield and in some cases, to stay on the vine. Whilst it looks very nice for them to arrive on the vine, this has no bearing on flavour. Our datterini tomatoes will sometimes come loose from the the vine, but we can guarantee that they have always been ripened and picked on the vine, and will have a wonderful, sweet flavour.

Vine or no vine...who cares

These are tasty. I had no problems with the packaging. Best tomatoes I have tasted in UK ever. Sweet, juicy, easy to eat on their own, so unlike the bland and tasteless tomatoes I used to eat. Yum.

Could do better!

I agree with almost all the comments in the last week's reviews! Certainly the taste is good but the tomatoes were all falling out of the open container despite the co's assurance to one reviewer that the box had been improved!!. Had to pick them out of the rest of my fruit and veg and several are damaged! Same experience with the 'vine' - 3 attached to a very long stalk and the rest all rattling around! Presentation not good, will go back to the IOW Piccolo brand, which is excellent.

Really tasty but not really vine tomatoes

These tomatoes taste fabulous, the best that we've had for ages. However it's a bit of stretch to call them vine tomatoes. There was a piece of vine in the pack with 3 tomatoes attached and enough stalks for another 5 or 6 tomatoes, but the rest of the fruit were loose in the container.

sweet and tasty

Finally!! A tomato that actually tastes like a tomato. Lovely and ripe with a deep red colour. Very juicy and melts in the mouth. Very happy to have stumbled across these.

Linguine with Pesto alla Trapanese

Linguine with Pesto alla Trapanese

This is a really old recipe, rooted in Trapani, a port town in Sicily and adaprted from the more famous and classic basil pesto. Trapanesi substituted local ingredients such as tomatoes and almonds for the basil and pine nuts, creating this beautiful summery pasta sauce.
