Product Description

Nduja is perhaps the ultimate salami from Calabria, and the most fiery. Originally from Monte Poro, near Capo Vaticano, it is now widespread throughout the region, loved for its intense flavour and beautiful texture, which is spreadable.

Its name is etymologically related to andouille, the French tripe sausage, even though most sources agree this salami was probably introduced into Calabria by the Spanish. Strong and marked in flavour, but at the same time quite smooth and tender, the Nduja is prepared by hand from finely minced cuts of select pork, skilfully seasoned, and packed into natural sausage skins. The flavour is at first quite sweet, then explodes with the full force of Calabrian chilli pepper.

Wow.

The true power of food comes through in this. My mouth is salivating... and I feel my next ocado order needs to be soon just so that I can get some more. I wish I had ordered three times the amount. A triumph for chilli lovers. A velvety texture, not reminiscent of raw meat at all. I would make this the ocado signature dish!

Whew!

It's definitely hot. But strangely addictive. I'm not normally one to eat really hot chilli flavours, but this has such a nice fruity red pepper/paprika and smoky pork taste beneath the spice, that it stays cool in your mouth whilst simultaneously blowing your head off ! It also has a remarkable texture - not unlike rillettes, but more finely minced and slightly harder. I loved it with white bread or toast, and a crunchy vegetable such as cucumber or radish just to cool down afterwards. I found myself returning to the fridge for another little bit and another slice of toast...nice also fried and then stirred into pasta or boiled potatoes. I have since had another authentic version in an Italian deli hamper and it was so hot I couldn't even eat a teeny bit on the end of my knife. This one is definitely more flavourful and interesting and worth getting past the heat if heat is not normally your thing.

Full of gristle

The taste wasn't bad, very spicy which would have been fine, but every bite contained what appeared to be minced gristle. Against the otherwise smooth texture of the product, this was quite disgusting.

Impulse/Curiosity Buy to New Fridge Essential.

If you're partial to (the texture of) pâté, but savour the flavour of chilli and chorizo this product is almost certainly for you. Sweet, spicy, smooth and meaty - I especially like it spread thinly on toasted ciabatta, An absolute treat! -(Also pleasantly surprised at amount received, a healthy sized block which lasted all week).

Delicious - quite spicy

Following some of the advice in other reviews, I cut about half the piece up into smaller pieces and gently fried it for a minute or two, then added some pasta sauce and continued stirring and frying till it seemed the right consistency. Made enough for two. Lovely flavour -- made my ordinary homemade tomato sauce much more exciting!
