Product Description
Ocado Scotch Bonnet Chillies.
Can be used for infusing oils or can be added to dishes to intensify the heat and then removed before serving.
In general Scotch Bonnet Chillies have a rating of 100,000 to 350,000 on the Scoville Heat Scale for Chilli Peppers, to put this into context the hottest chilli is at 15,000,000 and a Jalapeño would be 2,500.
Scotch bonnet chillies must be handled carefully since they can irritate the skin. You must avoid contact with eyes and wash hands thoroughly after preparation. If eating, remove all seeds to help reduce the heat, these chillies can be very hot!

The colour varies through green, orange, red and yellow depending mainly on the variety. However it can also change with maturity stage, so when the season is hotter the more mature chillies (tend to be orange/red) will be prevalent and hence it is easier to procure that colour.

Just the right kick
given that jalapeos in this country have absolutely no flavor, these little chilies have the right kick for a Mexican salsa.

What happened to the flavour?
Purchased these peppers many times before and they had ecellent heat and flavour. The last two packs had very little flavour and almost no heat. Spoiled the recipe for the dish I was preparing - infuriating!

Grown in Holland, Meek and Mild
The whole point of scotch bonnet chillies is heat, but they just don't generate that heat when grown in a cold climate. My recent purchase was grown in Holland and I can munch them raw, getting no more than a mild chilli tang. The finger chillies I bought from Ocado last week - which are a much milder variety - were ten times hotter, because they were grown in Africa. We really need to know the country of origin before we can judge whether a chilli is worth buying.

not hot enough
not like proper scotch bonnet chillies. i wanted to make some spicey chilli jam - i just have a sweet pepper relish instead. Still tastes okay, but not what i wanted. birds eye chillies would be a better bet if heat is required, which is usually the whole point of scotch bonnets!
