Product Description

Ocado Whole Leg of West Country Lamb.

The West Country is a traditional heartland for sheep production in England and its pastoral heritage is built on the temperate climate and excellent conditions for producing the best quality lamb, grazing some of the best quality pastures in the land.

Sheep have grazed in the West Country for thousands of years and the tradition of keeping sheep can be traced continuously for many generations. Many farming and grazing practices used today are in fact based on the traditional practices employed many centuries ago, shaped by the natural cycles of the farming calendar. Many of the traditional breeds such as the Polled Dorset and Dorset Horn breeds are prominent today because they were farmed in concert with the longer growing season and their natural ability to produce lambs for the spring. Grass is the most natural and sustainable source of feed and nutrition for sheep production and helps deliver some of the best in meat quality too.

The warmer climate of the region, refreshed by natural rainfall means the grass grows almost continuously throughout the year. Therefore, our farmers in the region can produce naturally reared and high quality finished lambs all year ‘round. All our lamb is independently Farm Assured to guarantee confidence and assurance of our products. We also combine state-of-the art processing with traditional butchery methods to ensure 100% of the care, provenance and quality of lamb is maintained from field to fork.

This is an Ocado product. Like everything in our range, it's good quality, sensibly priced and, of course, responsibly sourced.

It is hand selected and traditionally butchered, so size and cut of meat may vary.

Disappointing and tough!

Roasted this as I usually do, following Delia's instructions to the letter, but it was tough and chewy. Very disappointing.

So so delicious!

The best Easter lunch I can recall. The Ocado Greek lamb recipe was an absolute first for our household of 5 (incl. 3 guests) and really straight forward. I did add some finely cut batons and 5 florets of broccoli (steamed) separately which added colour to the plates. Undoubtedly this meal will be repeated. The roasted garlic was a first time for us and enjoyed.

Very poor

Joint looked nice and carved well but was a tough as old boots. In fact old boots would have been better and a lot lot cheaper

Whole Lotta Leg

We wanted a large joint of lamb to serve 10 people. Sometimes leg can be a bit overpowering but this leg was succulent and tasty. Carving was a pleasure as there was little fat and the meat was in easy to slice pieces.

Very disappointing!

Bought whilst on special offer & froze it. Roasted it last Sunday for lunch, with rosemary, thyme, mustard, garlic, lemon zest and olive oil and as always a small amount of water in the bottom of the roasting tin to ensure lovely tender, juicy and succulent meat. Plenty of resting time but NOPE! tough as old boots with lots of gristle. Not sure if the freezing didn't help but it hasn't seemed to before. Such a shame and at £22 felt a bit miffed. Buy the Waitrose leg of lamb much nicer.

Don't be afraid of the anchovies in this recipe - they dissolve into the lamb and simply intensify the flavour of the meat, without adding any 'fishiness'!
