Old Speckled Hen Strong Fine Ale 500ml
£2.05
41p per 100mlProduct information
...owes its name not to a bird, but to a car, a paint-spattered Featherweight Fabric Saloon. Back in the day, this was the MG factory run-around, fondly referred to as the 'Owld Speckl'd Un' due to its mottled appearance after several years parked under the paint shop. The beer itself was first brewed in 1979 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this iconic factory.
Our Master Brewer uses crystal and pale malts with Challenger, Pilgrim, First Gold and Goldings hops to deliver a beautifully malty ale with subtle notes of toffee and fruit. Especially fine with English roasts, sausages and pies.
Aroma: Malty, toffee lightly roasted
Taste: Abundance of malts and distinctive toffee character

has changed for the worst
it's OK if you are not so fussy about your real ale. used to be better and full tasting (and also 5.2%) many moons ago. not sure why it was changed but if you want anything close to the previous version you need 'old crafty hen' although that is significantly stronger (and nicer).
nice ale
I was sent this to review and I used half for cooking and drank half. Nice ale, nothing crazy about it. Very refreshing
Refreshing
I am reviewing this product because I got a free sample from Ocado. I don't often drink beer so popped this in the fridge and eventually got around to trying it. I'd forgotten how refreshing a cold beer can be on a warm day! I may well order again.
Lovely Stew!
Sent this to review. Not really a fine ale drinker, so had a mouthful and put the rest in a beef casserole. It was very tasty!!
Strong and tasty
I've received it from Ocado for review and even though it was my first Ale I enjoyed it. Strong but when it's cool it's very tasty, with some crisps on the side
Pleased our visiting connoisseur!
We were sent this to review by Ocado, and our beer-drinking visitor enjoyed it very much. Would buy again.
