Product Description

Sultanina grapes are grown in the lower Orange River region of the northern Cape, South Africa. The vineyards, sandwiched between the semi-desert and river, thrive on the intense sunshine and plentiful water. The grapes are initially placed on shaded racks to begin drying and are then moved into sunlight to turn their colour to amber. They are washed and cleaned ready to use in a variety of recipes.

I bought these BECAUSE of the oil coating.

There is very little oil at all. However, I am fed up with sultanas which go like tiny bits of grit well before they go out of date. I've been looking for ages for sultanas of this type, which keep their suppleness, as all sultanas used to some years ago, because of the very small amount of oil added. I deeply do not care about the nature of the teeny tiny bit of palm oil if it does its job properly - and it does.

Why palm oil??

I can't see the point of coating fruit in palm oil, which is a highly saturated fat. These sultanas are so greasy, and leave a sticky oily film on your fingers. Would not repurchase.
