Product Description

Guerande Coarse Sea Salt

- No additives;
- Hand mined.

It was between 854 and 859 that the monks from St. Sauveur de Redon were donated several salines on the peninsula of Batz. These salines were mined by the salt workers and weren’t going to change as a result. Sea water enters the salterns at high tide. It progresses slowly then gradually settles producing a concentration of salt which continues under the sun and wind until saturation point and until the sodium chloride forms crystals. The salt worker then collects the grey coarse salt by scraping with a type of wooden rake. The salt is then dripped dry firstly in the fresh air and then finely ground down in the salt granaries.

salty goodness

Amazing - you can really taste the sun and minerals in this very salty salt. It's delicious. It is very coarse ground and arrives very damp and clumpy in the bag but its hardly a big problem - it's how nature intended it to be. It really has a flavour that surpasses any other sea salt I've tried. I have seen the same salt sold on specialist sites for nearly £7 for 450g so what Ocado is offering is very good value for money. You could package this up and give to culinary minded friends as a present and they never know what a bargain it was

This is proper salt!

This is salt. You can not get any salt of better quality anywhere. This is as good as it gets!

Nice product but didn't expect it to arrive wet!

We were quite surprised to discover that the sea salt actually came with the sea in the packet! It's not necessarily a problem but we had to pop it in the oven to dry out before we could put it in our salt grinder!!

Value added?

This product is really lovely and being such a big bag it lasts for ages. In France you can buy this mixed with herbs de provence which is really expensive. So I decided to mix some in myself, made a big jar of it ready to use, and it is truly delicious. Totally transforms anything, even polenta, when added during cooking.

Healthy Tasty Salt

I am so pleased that Ocado are stocking these natural salts. It is pinky grey, but don't let that put you off. It contains all the minerals and trace elements that you need with sodium, unlike the processed demineralised variety. This makes it MUCH safer to eat. Apart from that it is flavousome and mild......Great stuff.!
