Product Description

Brioche Loaf from Vendée Hand-plaited Pure Butter

Since the Middle Ages families from the Vendee region who live in the country have been making the "Gache" brioche loaf with breadcrumbs in the form of bread for Easter. In the 19th century the job of the baker became more general in rural France. These artisans changed the recipe and presentation of the brioche by plaiting it.
This lighter plaited brioche then became the cake for all celebrations. 20kg and 30kg brioches are still made to celebrate the traditional "Brioche Dance" to celebrate weddings in the Vendee region.

Too sweet and too much vanilla

I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the loaf and was happy as we love brioche in our house! But from the first bite, it was quite awful. It's a bit too sweet and quite pungent in taste, like someone had overdone the vanilla in a cake. On he plus side, it's lovely and buttery and texture is just right.

best brioche, perfect for french toast

Wish waitrose sold this. It is the best brioche I've eaten, it had a slight tang but I could not taste the rum which is good. I made french toast with this and it was brilliant, the perfect loaf size for it and the texture was spot on.

nom nom nom

Can demolish this in one day if nobody is home to stop me. Light fluffy and delicious, spread with thin layer of butter and eat with coffee. Or on its own. Or just out of the packet. Incredibly moreish and unbelievably tempting, never lasts very long

Worth every penny

I was quite reluctant to pay this much for a loaf despite the excellent reviews, however, I am so glad I did. The loaf is huge and I divided it into two and froze half to make a bread and butter pudding. I cannot comment on how well it freezes but if it is going in a dessert I know it will be fine and probably freezes beautifully. The flavour of the bread is divine and I was not overly aware of the rum taste others have mentioned, but it is buttery and spongy and makes the most amazing toast. Don't hesitate, buy some, you will not be disappointed.
