Arrived stale twice. They taste good when fresh. Check before accepting them.

The Truth About Teacakes

Teacakes should have a dry, firm crumb and should never be soggy when water is usually used to make the dough go further. These Teacakes are a classic just as they were originally made to be like. Delicious and fruity, they can be eaten buttered or toasted to perfection but use pure butter! Excellent served as part of a traditional English tea with sandwiches, Victoria sponge and shortbread. But serve loose Assam tea as nothing else will do.

New recipe gets thumbs down

Why have you made these tea cakes soooo sticky?? They are stuck to the wrapper and cardboard then glue themselves to everything they come into contact with. I like the fruit but not the bun texture, it's very dry.

New recipe not an improvement

I used to really enjoy these teacakes and bought them regularly but Waitrose has 'improved' the recipe and in doing so has produced a stodgy and tasteless bun.. I can see the dried fruit but I certainly cannot taste it, It also glues itself to to the cardboard insert., which is irritating. I tried twice, just in case I was in a bad mood the first time but, no, they are really that poor.

Disapointing, run of the mill, teacakes.

Called by the same 'richly fruited' name as my sometime favourite delicious doughy Waitrose buns, which have now changed to maroon packs and deteriorated, these are similar. Not particularly well-fruited, the teacakes are dry and pale and appear to be made of the same stuff as a lot of sliced white bread, ie they are a bit like bath sponge in texture. Like the deteriorated buns, they too now have dented shrivelled looking tops. Is Waitrose sourcing these products from a different bakery, or is it just the quality of product that has been downgraded? I wonder which.
