Baking- preheat oven
- wash the potato and prick it all over with a fork
- rub a little olive oil on the potato skin and sprinkle a little salt over as this helps to make the skin nice and crispy
- place in the centre of the oven, directly on the oven shelf/wire rack so that it cooks evenly all over
- depending on oven and size of potato, it will probably take 45 minutes to 1 hour to be cooked to perfection

Set aside some time if you are going to peel!

I don't think these are recommended for roasting but I ordered them as I never use a whole bag of potatoes so was happy to justify the additional cost to try something new. They took me ages to peel but roasted in goose fat these were the lightest, tastiest potatoes we have had. They are sensitive little things though so if you decide to roast go steady with the parboiling!

Unusual and delicious potatoes

I wasn't sure what to expect given the reviews I'd read on here but I was delighted with the bag of Highland Burgundy Red I received. This small, red, floury variety has a delicious nutty flavour and retained its unusual burgundy colour once cooked. I baked the spuds in their skins from raw using a tiny amount of oil and they were perfect for mopping up the juices of a wintery casserole. I rather liked the "lucky dip" element of surprise too!

Not as expected

From the design of the packaging, I expected to receive a mix of potatoes - should have read the description better. The bag contained just one variety, Pentland Black, and they aren't at all pleasant. Not a good flavour and a mushy consistency when cooked. Overall disappointed and think the packaging is misleading and the body copy description needs to be clearer about the contents.

What a shame

Really wanted to like these, supporting the old heritage spud cause etc., but afraid the quality control was poor. The ones that were usable were great, but I'd expect to use more than a third, which was just about what I got. Sorry guys, heritage does not mean rotting and black-eyed imo.

Real potatoes!

If you like your potatoes, peeled and bland...then these are not for you. Cook them as suggested, eat the skins, very tasty AND good for you, accept the blemishes, remember not every potato can be pretty, and they are great. Potatoes aren't nice, even, round things and they do grow in the ground so they get dirty!! Be brave try them!
