Waitrose White Sourdough Loaf
A pre-sliced white sourdough loaf made using a wholemeal and rye levain.

A traditional sourdough bread with no added yeast made with a long fermentation and then baked on the stone sole of the oven. This bread makes great toast when older and is perfect with a ploughmans or a serious sandwich.

inconsistent

When this bread is good, it's awesome, and makes particularly good toast. When it's bad, it's sour cardboard. It also goes off very quickly. The last time I purchased it, the slices were cut very unevenly so there were some thick doorstop slices and some that could only be used for melba toast. I wouldn't begrudge spending £1.99 for a small loaf if the product was outstanding every single time, but it isn't and so I'm not buying it again for the forseeable future

Often stale

I used to love this bread and buy it all the time, but the quality has deteriorated in recent months. The texture has changed, like it has been previously frozen. As others say, it often arrives stale or with only one day left on its use by date. It is often out of stock or in the substituted items, so unreliable. Wonder what is going on with it?

waste of money

this bread is very expensive but i am happy to pay if it is good quality. This bread was very cold on arrival my husband asked me if it had been frozen .....was it? it was hard,stale and completely unusable for a sandwich, only suitable for toast. Dont buy !!!
