Myliko Wines

Benjamin Bardos

This wine is made from grapes grown in Mátra Vineyards located on the southern slopes of Mátra Mountain, the largest in Hungary, with the specific purpose of accompanying spicy foods from around the world. The location of the vineyards offers a unique microclimate which allows the largest vineyard in Central Europe to produce exceptional quality grapes. Under the watchful eye of winemaker Benjamin Bárdos, grapes are hand-picked at optimum ripeness, before being carefully fermented at cool temperatures in order to retain their varied fruit and aromatic qualities.

Regional Information

The sunny slopes protected from north by Matra Mountain are ideal for the tending of vines and have been cultivated for the past 7000 years. It is rare that the climate of a region, which differs in location of slopes, promotes a wide range of different grape varieties: most of the best varieties are acclimatised here. Apart from the surroundings, as a result of centuries old traditions and grape-growers care, gourmets around the world know the flavour of Nagyrédes white and red wines. The effects of large-scale wine production have not overcome the art of winemaking in these local cellars, where old traditions go hand in hand with modern methods. Winemakers here are very proud of the fine reputation of their wines, the traditional varieties and winemaking skills, but are also keen to utilise modern technology and practises.

Vinification Details

The grapes were gently pressed at a maximum of 0.9 bar pressure, and then macerated for 3-4 hours. The wine underwent a partial Malolactic fermentation. Nagyréde Winery purchases all its grapes from an area of approximately 1,000 hectares on the basis of five-year integration contracts with growers in the neighbourhood of the winery.
