The Black Farmer British Free Range Corn Fed Chicken
Reared to high welfare standards, the farms and methods of production are accredited to the RSPCA Assurance scheme.
The Chickens are reared on small farms where they can freely roam and forage in natural grasses and herbs to their hearts content, having 24-hour access to their range outside so they can come and go from their house as they please.
The Chickens environment is also enriched which encourages them to express natural behaviour and live an active lifestyle.
The Chickens are fed a nutritious corn-based diet, which gives them a rich flavour and succulence.
The Black Farmer brand was launched in 2005 by Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones.
The Black Farmer is seen as one of the UK’s most inclusive and innovative brands.
Purpose driven, the company’s priority is to provide affordable premium products to all, with a mission to supply customers with exciting products that bring quality to their lives - be that higher welfare meat & poultry or the great tasting sausages that The Black Farmer is famous for.
The Story Of The Black Farmer
Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones, The Black Farmer, is the classic poor boy, done good! After his family came to the UK in the Windrush years in the 1950s, he settled in inner-city Birmingham, as part of a large family with nine siblings, living in poverty.
Wilfred’s dad had a prized allotment where he grew vegetables that supplemented the family with much needed food. As the eldest boy it was Wilfred’s job to help tend the allotment, this experience shaped the dream of owning his own farm, a piece of the British countryside, and it was that dream that became the focus of everything he did.
This dream came to fruition with the purchase of a small farm on the Devon/Cornwall border. It was here that his Devon neighbours coined the term ‘The Black Farmer’ and this inspired him to launch his own brand – The Black Farmer.
Wilfred’s love of food spans both urban and rural ways of life and The Black Farmer brand celebrates this passion with the best of British culinary offerings.
