  • British Gammon Joint Unsmoked essential Waitrose

British Gammon Joint Unsmoked essential Waitrose Typical weight: 2.1kg

    07 June 2011

    Good

A nice joint turned up costing 16pounds so was plenty big enough. The cooked product was lovely served sliced and cold. If I have this again I will probably soak it over night as it is more salty than I expected an unsmoked joint to be, but it was fine- it is gammon after all. I would probably reduce the cooking time slightly from the recommendations so don't be tempted to leave it in longer just in case- not necessary.

great to have in the freezer

Everyone needs something good in the freezer....just in case. You can just let it defrost and eat it then. However I like it cooked....just 30 minutes in the oven crisps up the pastry even if you choose to eat it later when it has cooled.

    tasty but eat quickly

I agree with other reviewers that they are nice carrots. I don't think that they keep very well based on my experience having bought them and chucked half out three times. I think that they are best eaten within 4 days of purchase which is strange as you expect carrots to be OK for much longer

  • Gilbert's Kosher Pepperoni Chorizo

    Chorizo or Luncheon meat?

If you look at the other reviewers they wanted a salami and were happy. I wanted a chorizo and was not happy. True you pay your money and take your choice and this represents the best value for Chorizo. This product is less like the smoked spiced meat that I was expecting and more like luncheon meet with a tiny paprika flavour. I cooked it and chucked it in with something else and it was fine but if you expected a product to eat, ready sliced, I think that you can make a better choice.

    really dissappointed

It is difficult to visualise how big something is going to be for the money when buying online. If I was in the supermarket and saw this portion and the money they wanted I would not have picked it up. Also, I didn't particularly like the marinade but I conceed that is personal.

can't tell it is gluten free

no one can tell it is different so this is one of the things I dish up without having to justify. following the suggested cooking time gives you a very tough product, try it, I think the time needs to be doubled to about 13/14 minutes which is only a little longer than I would cook wheat pasta

    Its good

I was seduced by the advert and bought it. I love the nuts in it because it gives it an unexpected texture. In honesty I think it needs a little sweetening with honey but thats personal. In addition it is really easy to prepare when you are half asleep in the morning

    didn't like it

This does not taste like a premium brand but at the reduced price not bad. Personally I thought the caramel bits had too much of a burnt quality
