Bacon Wrapped Asparagus with Gooey Dipping Cheese

Mellow smokey bacon encasing crisp young asparagus spears, dipped into oozing ripe cheese. This has to be the simplest, yet most luxurious dish ever conceived - perfect for a weekend lunch with some crusty bread, a sociable first course for dinner with friends, or a delicious treat just for two.

Instructions

    Preheat the grill and oven to gas mark 4/180C

    Take each asparagus spear and wrap it in one rasher of bacon, making sure to wrap the 'head' end of the asparagus (to prevent it from over cooking). Place on a baking tray and cook under a hot grill for about 10 minutes until crispy and golden. Turn halfway through.

    Meanwhile, wrap a little foil around the cheese, p[lace on a baking tray and cook for about 10 minuted until it is soft to touch and melted within the crust.

    Serve dipped into the melted cheese and chutney as a starter,canape or accompaniment to burgers or steaks.

  • 2 mini camembert
  • 1 fruit chutney, for dipping
