Product Information
In Northern Spain there is a long standing tradition of gastronomic societies, known locally as txokos, where friends meet to cook and share their passion for fine food and drink. In the 1970s one such group of friends formed a txoko in the small town of Ollauri in Rioja Alta. Unsatisfied with the wine on offer at the time, they decided to start their own winery to make wines worthy of partnering their culinary achievements. The result was multi award-winning Rioja winery, Bodegas Beronia.

Other Information
After the careful harvest of our very best grapes, our Reserva begins its fermentation. This is a slow and controlled process, enabling all the colour and aroma from the grapes to be extracted. Over eighteen months in mixed French and American oak barrels, the wine gradually develops its trademark smoothness and complexity, furthered by spending eighteen months in bottle prior to release.

History
Bodegas Beronia is quintessentially Rioja. Its wines are defined by the region and the soils in which the vines are grown, and its name linked to the history of the land where the winery is found. In the 3rd Century BC the area known as Rioja today was inhabited by a celtic tribe called the ‘Berones’. They inhabited the towns of Tricio, Varea and Leiva, marking the limits of the Berones region, today La Rioja. The founding ethos of Beronia is strongly allied to the origins of La Rioja.

Regional information
Our winery is proudly located in the Rioja Alta sub-region, home to the highest number of century-old wineries in Europe. Tucked in the foothills of the Cantabrian mountains and close to the river Ebro, nature’s influence helps to shape the exquisite character of our fruit.
Warm Spanish days and soft Mediterranean breezes are followed by dramatically cooler nights. This allows our grapes to ripen slowly and evenly over time, giving them the complexity needed to produce our elegantly complex wines.
The structure and variety of these ancient soils have produced unique wines for thousands of years.

Tasting notes
An excellent Tempranillo that is the product of Beronia's deep commitment to the environment and of organic viticulture inspired by the wine-making techniques practised by the Berones in the 3rd century BC. Floral and spice aromas meet notes of chocolate and vanilla over a background of red fruit. This is a fresh and full-bodied wine with a long and complex finish.

Vinification details
The main features of the weather during the growing year were the mild winter and spring, which brought budburst and fruit set forward compared with the usual dates for these events. Rainfall during the winter was average but there were storms in spring, some of which took the form of hail, although this was in very specific areas.
The ripening of the grapes happened in the first few days of August, which was a very hot month indicating that the harvest would be about 15 days early. The weather changed dramatically at the
beginning of September, with daytime temperatures becoming milder and night time temperatures much cooler, creating a great diurnal range – ideal for the grapes’ general development and their phenolic ripening too. The outcome was satisfactory, with very healthy grapes, well-ripened skins and sweet tannins. The harvest took place in an orderly manner, in stages, starting on 20th September and ending on 19th October. It was classified as VERY GOOD.
