BigFish Brand Smoked Sea Trout is made with a strain of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) which is slow grown for us at sea. It's from the same family as salmon and also rich in Omega3 but with a character all of its own. It makes a delicious smoked product and is now available frozen, so you can always have it ready to hand from the freezer!

Just like our BigFish Brand Traditional Smoked Salmon, our Smoked Sea Trout is traditionally cured, oak smoked, and hand sliced. It's fantastic on toast, for canapés or even just in a very special sandwich!

frozen or fresh?

zero idea whether this should have been stored in my freezer or not. not at all clear. unsure whether I can eat or need to chuck it. Should make clear in product title.

less keen than other reviewers

I thought given all the good reviews I was onto a good thing but for me it was too salty. Flavoursome but salty. I used some in lieu of hot smoked for a pate with cream cheese etc and the salt was very dominant even when processed with a very plain/bland soft cheese. As people have commented separating slices is difficult. The experiment showed I could use this type of trout for the pate if pushed but I wont use this one for it and not sure Ill buy this one again for eating as it comes. Really wish Ocado would stock a good hot smoked in fillets or chunks.

love it with some gotchas

I love smoked trout, my fav sandwich filling. This is decent, though a little expensive for the money. Being frozen is handy, but it does have a bit of an impact on the structure, and it rarely comes out as slices.

Lovely flavour but not slices

Lovely smokey taste but spoiled because I had to separate out lots of small pieces (1- 1.5") that had been squashed together.
