History

Founded in 1997 by Andrew and Susie Nugent and still family owned. Originally a dairy farm, Bird in Hand champions social inclusions and advocacy through artisan wine. Bird in Hand's Woodside Estate is now home to sustainable vineyard plantings of Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Their Finniss River Estate spans 160 acres and neighbours the southern boundary of the Adelaide Hills. The estate has been planted with Pinot Noir and Shiraz and was harvested for the first time in 2025.

Regional information

Adelaide Hills has a well deserved reputation as one of Australia's most exciting cool climate areas. Due to its altitude, the region is significantly cooler than its neighbours. Long dry summers and Autumns lead to wonderful acidity in the fruit.

Tasting notes

Fabulous aromas of yellow nectarine, citrus blossom and vanilla spice. A classic cool climate Chardonnay, this wine evokes stone fruit, honey melon and vibrant citrus with subtle oak,
spice and hazelnut. Beautifully balanced with a zesty finish.

Vinification details

After settling in stainless steel for 24 hours, fermentation occurred in 35% French oak barrique and 65% stainless steel. Partial malolactic fermentation then occurred with some gentle stirring for added complexity. The wines then spent 4 months on their lees (15% in new oak) before blending and bottling.
