History

Bodegas Montecastro was founded in the early 2000s, by a group of friends who had the vision of creating exceptional wines in the heart of Ribera del Duero. Today, the winery has 27 hectares which are located near Burgos in the province of Valladolid (Castrillo de Duero).

Regional information

Tempranillo grapes are selected from vineyards found at some of the highest altitudes in the region between 860 and 923 metres above sea level, which are located near Burgos in the province of Valladolid (Castrillo de Duero).

Tasting notes

Dark and intense with aromas of ripe red fruits and dried cherries. Flavours of black plums and dark chocolate on the palate, with silky smooth tannins and subtle sweet spices

Vinification details

Tempranillo grapes are macerated for one month with partially destemmed grapes and is then fermented in concrete tanks. The wine is then aged in new French oak barrels for eight months, which is followed by an additional ten months in French oak barrels. The wine is left to mature in concrete tanks for a further two months before bottling.
