Veterinary surgeon John Burns began making dog food in 1993 to help dogs stay healthy, creating simple, natural, highly digestible complete recipes. He'd seen how poor diets caused skin, digestive and behaviour issues. We still follow that same straightforward approach - wholesome ingredients, solid science and a focus on what dogs truly need.

Adult dogs daily feeding guidelines
5kg - Adult 70g, Sensitive 50g, Senior 40g
10kg - Adult 140g, Sensitive 100g, Senior 80g
20kg - Adult 280g, Sensitive 200g, Senior 160g
30kg - Adult 420g, Sensitive 300g, Senior 240g
40kg - Adult 560g, Sensitive 400g, Senior 320g
14g per 1kg of body weight per day (for dogs with typical daily activity).
10g per 1kg of body weight per day (for dogs who do better on smaller meals, especially those with delicate digestion).
8g per 1kg of body weight per day (for older or less active dogs).
Every dog is different; adjust the quantity to suit your dog's individual needs. You may need to reduce the amount you feed for several reasons, such as if your dog is neutered, less active, or fussy. Overeating can lead to digestive issues. For dogs that are overweight, base the daily feeding amounts on their target weight rather than their current weight. You may also need to increase the daily amount for a more active dog. Unless advised otherwise, transition your dog to their new food gradually over 10-14 days.

The Burns story...
Burns Pet Nutrition leads the way with its award-winning range of natural pet food for dogs and cats.
Burns pet nutrition commenced trading in 1993 when Veterinary Surgeon John Burns MBE BVMS MRCVS introduced his first Adult Maintenance food (now called Original Chicken & Brown Rice). John's aim was to avoid the build-up of toxic waste in the system which interferes with normal healthy function. You can read more in John's Veterinary Guide to Natural Healthcare.
This unique vision has been proven for over 30 years, and tens of thousands of pet owners can testify to the health-enriching benefits of Burns. John's holistic approach ensures excellent all-round benefits including healthy skin and digestive system and even appropriate behaviour through optimal mental health.
This is backed up by professional advice provided by the Burns Health and Nutrition Team.
In addition to being a market-leading pet food company, Burns is proud to be a Living Wage employer and has its own in-house charity The John Burns Foundation, with its own dedicated team. From grassroots projects to The Burns By Your Side Reading-to-Dogs Programme, your purchase will help make a difference to the lives of people and pets across the UK.
