good at the discounted price
Ok, first of all, to all the naysayers, this is Calvet. So, reliable, mass produced, but may not blow your socks off. Its on offer at £11. I think its a smooth wine (St. Emilion is not always smooth) and great for everyday drinking. Certainly not acidic. At its full price of £17, its a good, inoffensive, wine, but wont raise any eyebrows. I think the others on this list received bad bottles and should have claimed refunds. The other thing to note is that Bordeaux reds, generally, are more expensive than other producing regions. Go into any wine merchant, the Bordeaux reds are a real premium.
Pretty good win \- cork impossible to remove
This wine uses a synthetic cork, which is fine. However it is impossible to open - it's as if it's glued in place. Have completely butchered the first bottle trying to open it, and it nearly defeated me. Second day I managed to open it. Will be returning the rest of the bottles.
No
Preferred the other saint emilions on here. So far half a bottle going in dinner
Nothing special
We kept the wine for a special occasion but not worth the wait. We found it to be a very ordinary wine and have preferred wines half the price.
Perfect for game season
I’m reviewing this product because I got a free sample from Ocado, and we drank it with 2 bacon-wrapped partridges. Given the strength, I got the bottle a little above room temperature and opened it an hour before decanting it. Paired excellently (and went pretty well with the chocolate fondants that followed). Would definitely buy again for game - maybe a braised venison suet next time. Thanks Ocado!
Very dry acidic wine
I am reviewing this product because I got a free sample from Ocado. Very dry and acidic wine. And also strong taste of tannins. It might go well with roast beef.
