Too much liquid
I usually like Charlie Bingham products but unfortunately not, it would seem, their pies. Whilst well presented, the ceramic dish was unnecessary & wasteful (am I going to get a dish every time I eat one of their pies?!) & the pie was far too large with too much liquid. Whilst the chicken itself was nice, there was too little if it as it was drowned in sauce. They would be better off making a smaller pie with the same amount of meat) &, ditching the dish (which would reduce costs). Disappointing
I have often had this pie and always found that it is a good size ceramic dish full of tender white cubes of chicken. The white creamy mushroom sauce is both flavoursome and smooth. All covered in by a really lovely flakey puff pastry. I’ve just been lucky enough to reorder on a flash sale which is a help as they are expensive normally, but worth it.
What happened to the two-pack?
Love these pies, but the pricing has gone crazy - used to be able to buy a pack of two for £9.50, now they cost £12 for two or £11 when on offer. Cant justify the cost any more, whereas these used to be a regular purchase :(
Not a traditional pie but very good
So this Ceramic Pie is, as the name implies, not actually a traditional pie. It is in fact a small ceramic bowl of stew, covered in puff pastry. That said, although this does leave you with a fairly useless small ceramic bowl afterwards, the approach does have its advantages. Because the pastry doesnt have to do the heavy lifting of actually containing the filling, it is much lighter and the whole effect is much less stodgy than a traditional pie. It also means the filling can have more liquid to balance out the dryness of the pastry. So I think its pretty good although Im not sure Id pay full price for it, hence only 4 stars.
Pie was excellent, but why use a ceramic bowl?
I cannot fault the pie, it was great and very tasty. The issue I have is it comes in a small ceramic bowl, which isn't very economic or ecological. Also, what am I supposed to do with this bowl after I had the pie?
I loved it
Most of the pies here dont have enough filling. This was perfect ratio w excellent pastry.
