Product Information
Anseillan is not a château, it’s a wine. It is produced in the capable hands of the Lafite teams, in the Lafite cellars, with the same love and passion. While production may vary from vintage to vintage, the quality never falters. The village of Anseillan lies to the east of Lafite Rothschild, between the Château and the Gironde. This area presents a wide variety of terroirs which are the subject of much thought and research. Cooler and later because of their northern exposure, there is also more clay than Lafite’s classic terroirs. This terroir and the Lafite teams’ work give Anseillan’s wine a unique style and excellent complexity.

History
On its plateau of mythical gravel, the men and women who work in its vines are only intermediaries. And for 150 years, with the arrival of Baron James, members of the same family have been taking turns to pass on a single message: that of precision and resilience in the face of the tremendous blows that the heavens rain down on its lands. In this eternal new beginning, in this inconstancy of nature which has a different fate in store for it each year, Lafite remains upright, sensitive and subtle. It has the nature of the wise, unchangeable like its everlasting gravels. But while it has been around for over a thousand seasons, its roots tell us it is already writing all our futures.

Vinification details
Anseillan is made according to the traditional Bordeaux method. Alcoholic fermentation is conducted in wooden, concrete and stainless steel vats. Gentle pumping-over helps to ensure a soft extraction and is carried out according to the specific characteristics of each tank. Total maceration time lasts for about 20 days. After malolactic fermentation, wines are transfered into French oak barrels made by the Tonnelleries des Domaines in Pauillac for a period of 16 months approximately.
