Disappointing, not nearly as good as the bacon and cabbage dinner. The pork was tasteless and rather tough. The 'roast potato' seemed more like a boiled potato which had been rolled in 'something orange'. The mash & veg were OK, the gravy pleasant though in short supply, the apple sauce just ok.
One of the nicer ready meals
As my cooker decided to give up the ghost on Christmas day of all days, I was pretty chuffed to realise that I'd purchased one of these in a flash sale. Ready meals, in particular microwavable ready meals, that I find palatable, are rarer than hens' teeth, but this, I liked! On the negative side, it had suffered a little in transit, so it was a little mixed up, but it wasn't too bad. Also, for the life of me, I couldn't find this mythical apple sauce I have heard tales told of. Ok, not exactly tales, but it is written boldly across the packaging and so it followed that I was expecting at least a noticeable teaspoon of the stuff, but no joy. The cabbage had 'texture', but I wouldn't say it was tough, or woody, and I prefer that to mushy cabbage. More positively, the roast potato was ok, the mash was good, the gravy was quite nice and surprisingly the pork was tender, moist and tasty, and for me, it was great that the small amount of fat, was easily cut from the edges. So all in all, a hot meal was had, despite no cooker, and I was pretty happy with the result. I would buy again, even at full price.
Best Ready Meal I've Tried
I have tried a few ready meals recently and this has to be one of the best. There are two thick slices of pork that look as though they have been freshly carved from a joint. Plenty of vegetables, a tasty roast potato and two scoops of fluffy mash. I have two minor criticisms, it could do with a bit more gravy and I couldn't find any apple sauce. It's a bit dearer than other roast dinner ready meals, but worth the extra.
tasty but messy!
Being an avid home cook I know what good food tastes like! I never ordinarily order ready meals, but after a 16 day stint in hospital and living alone I thought this to be worth a try. My other choices of meals (other brands and food types) have all been very disappointing - at best! However, this meal was so tasty, contrary to the reviews of others the meat was delicious and tender, the spuds and veg were all lovely ( cabbage rather tough!). There was, however VERY little gravy and the apple sauce seemed to have either been forgotten or was so minimal as to be practically invisible! The final gripe? Why oh why is everything in one open tray?? Like other customers I found the meal delivered to be one big mess - all mushed together (not visually appetising at all!). If the meal were compartmentalised I would find the apple sauce and gravy could be in a separate covered pot. Despite each individual negative observation this meal would have received a 5 star rating but ..... add the mark
The roast potato tasted horrible couldn't eat it - the cabbage had woody chewy bits in and the roast pork was like cardboard - whatever has happened to what was one of my favorite ready meals!
Ive bought this a few times now. For a ready meal I find it tastes good. Tastes quality. The only problem being that every time it comes competent messed up. I just wish they could keep it flat when ordering. Yes it all tastes the same, but it really couldnt get more messy.
