Filling, tasty and vegan friendly
Loved this pie which had a delicious crisp pastry and a moist flavoursome filling, full of beans and herbs. It was a bit tricky to get out of its foil case though.
Bland and disappointing
I'm a big fan of French Cassoulet, one of my favourite dishes. Sadly, this pie doesn't taste of cassoulet - it's more like some tinned baked beans with green beans mixed in (I didn't notice the chestnuts). The pastry was underwhelming - pale, thin and not very tasty. As others have noted, it's very small - probably a similar size to a pie you might get from a fish and chip shop, possibly a little smaller though? I picked it up out of interest in a flash sale, but won't be buying it again.
Delicious, loved it!
Ive tried a lot of vegan pies and this one is up there with the best. Whilst the bottom of the pastry didnt crisp up as much as I would have like the top half was well baked and the filling was delicious. A really tasty and filling pie. Will be buying again.
Really enjoyed it, great pastry, nice flavour
Bought on a flash sale and expected to be underwhelmed but I really enjoyed it (even if it was a day over its use by date- oops!). The shortcrust pastry looked a bit pale after cooking but it was tasty and had a lovely texture. The filling has a pleasant tomato flavour with a nice mix of beans and pulses and a lovely inclusion of a couple of (quite soft) half chestnuts which were lovely. Its small for the price, definitely more of a snack for one person, and Im not sure if I would buy it at full price but Im just buying my second one on offer now so it must be good. Makes a nice change.
Surprisingly good, will buy again
I didn't notice this was vegan until I'd finished it, so spent quite a while wondering why my cassoulet had so many beans and so little meat in it. Silly me. The veg filling was pleasant - almost home-made - and the pastry surprisingly good for gluten free. I'm no pie expert but I enjoyed it. On it being called French Cassoluet, it tastes of tomatoes and has some stew-like vegetables and some beans in it so it kind of fits, but it's a real stretch of the imagination. If you've had the pleasure of the real dish forget that and just take this as it comes, perhaps pretending they'd called it "sweet tomato bean pie". I'm off to look at the rest of their gf + df range for next order. Enjoy!
small and delicious
Ive no idea what a Cassoulet is supposed to taste like, but I can say that I thought this single portion pie was really tasty, with good firm pastry crust... a pleasant surprise.
