Product information

Primitivo has been grown in the region of Puglia, the heel of Italy's boot, for hundreds of years. Colpasso Primitivo is the perfect combination of local tradition and modern wine-making, being robust at the same time as smooth and silky. Rich in fruit, with a certain "savoury" feel, Colpasso Primitivo has an abundance of ripe, dark berry flavours and is the perfect accompaniment to rich, meaty pasta dishes.

History
Primitivo is grown in Puglia, also known as the 'heel' of Italy, and it is one of the most planted grapes in the Italian peninsula. Our Winemaker Stefano Chioccioli insist on an early harvest to keep the fruitiness of this wine and avoid a high level of alcohol. This enables us to get a perfect balance between the medium body and the perfect softness of the fruits.
Regional Information
This wine comes from Puglia's Salento Peninsula, in the Leverano area

Vinification Details
The grapes, transported in small containers, are very softly destemmed and the skins left intact. Fermentation at a controlled temperature of 22-24C, with frequent pumping over the must in order to get the best colour, bouquet and soft tannins. After the malolactic the wine is kept on its fine lees until the end of February/March.

absolute favourite

I think everyone who has written a negative review received a bad bottle, which I agree is poor. However, this is my favourite supermarket wine. I spent a lot of time in Italy and almost exclusively drink primitivos - this is the best one available from a supermarket, the others I import and cost £15+/bottle. This wine is so smooth and deep with an aftertaste of honeycomb. I hope the bad reviews ward people off so there is more left for me! But this wine deserves a good review as it is excellent - I buy at least 2 bottles/shop

okay but not great

Usually love a primivito but I found this quite acidic in the palette and not very smooth. Would not recommend

Crowd Pleaser

A reliable good value fruity red thats great with pasta, pizza and Italian sausages. Its a little too light with more robust braised dishes, but its gone down well at many a family gathering.
