Product information

Cynar, invented by Venetian entrepreneur Angelo Dalle Molle and launched in Italy in 1952, is an artichoke based bittersweet liqueur enriched by a secret recipe of the infusion of thirteen herbs and plants.

A dark amber-brown liquid, with a herbal nose, Cynar is a modern versatile drink with a bittersweet liquid that carries herbal notes including artichoke, rounded with caramel smoothness.

A bartender favourite, it can be enjoyed on the rocks, as a spritz, or in a range of cocktails such as the Cynar Julep. Cynar is perfect as both an aperitif and a digestif.

Nothing Beats

Cynar, for settling my very-odd digestive system. Like medicine, only really, really lovely. Isnt it interesting that the reviews here are all five-star. Where is the one-star Yuck, I still prefer Coke? Anyhoo, if youve found this lovely nectar, and you love it, welcome to the Club. Try it on your friends. Theyll hate it. But I hate diet-anything. Its just nature. Enjoy.

unusual digestif

So there are aperitifs, to spark the appetite, and there are digestifs, to help the food go down and settle the stomach - so you get these, warming, quite medicinal in flavour, concoctions. This is an unusual one - its made from artichokes - and Ive tasted better but Ive also tasted much much worse. Its well balanced and warming - the taste may appeal to you or not. My staple is Fernet Branca, but this was an interesting alternative - dont think Ill buy it again though.

Delicious with soda

Reminiscent of holidays in Sardinia. Served with soda, ice and a slice of orange it cheers up the greyest British weekend.

Perfect with tonic!

I bought this out of curiosity more than anything else, as I'd never heard of it until now, and it sounded intriguing. Seeing as it's described as bitter, it definitely held an appeal for me as I'm a big fan of Aperol. Where Aperol has a bitter orange flavour though, Cynar is made with artichokes, although you don't actually taste artichoke. It's kind of a herby/spicy, medicinal flavour. It's very strong neat, but mixed with tonic, it's lovely and I could drink it all day. There are plenty of ideas on the net on how to use this if you fancy being a bit more adventurous though. Give it a try!
