Product Information
Don Melchor's style, complexity, and elegance is the result of the perfect balance between the stony Puente Alto soil, the generous Maipo Alto Valley climate, the cold winds that blow down from the Andes, the years that the vines have taken to offer their best grapes, and the meticulous care and detailed work of the human hand.
The 2017 vintage was marked by a year of tremendous quality and balance. The temperatures were generally warmer than usual, but dropped at the onset of the harvest season, which allowed the grapes to ripen perfectly and obtain excellent fruity expression and ultimately, to produce a wine of extraordinary elegance, vivacity, and structure.
The 2017 vintage is 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc.

30th Anniversary 1987-2017
Don Melchor Celebrate Its 30 Th Anniversary with The Extraordinary 2017 Vintage
In 1883, Don Melchor Concha y Toro planted his first viniferous vines, Cabernet Sauvignon, at the foot of the majestic Andes Mountains. 100 years later, the visionary vintner Eduardo Guilisasti Tagle encouraged the development of a wine that would faithfully express its origin And so arose, in 1987, the first vintage of Don Melchor from the century-old vineyard in Puente Alto, a terroir of exceptional conditions for growing the best Cabernet Sauvignon in the world.

Regional information
Puente Alto is a privileged terroir, determined by the singular combination of soil, climate conditions, the vineyard, and a delicate human touch to craft vintages that are a faithful expression of this special place. Located at the foot of the Andes, 650 metres above sea level, the Don Melchor winery is set on the north bank of the Maipo River and has long been a keystone in the history of Chilean wine. Ever since French pre-phylloxera vines were imported in the mid-19th Century, this part of the Maipo Valley has been growing in prestige and quality, building on a past rich in tradition.
Tasting notes
Deep cherry red in colour. Don Melchor 2017 is a wine with extraordinary elegance. Full of aromas and flavours and a marked presence of red berries. On the palate, there are strong notes of Cabernet Sauvignon from Puente Alto, with fine and delicate tannins, while also providing a good density and long-lasting finish

Vinification details
Hand picked grapes are manually picked and sorted, before entering stainless steel tanks for 10 days of alcoholic fermentation with manual pump over. At the end of the maceration period, each tank is devatted, tasted and selected by the Don Melchor winemaking team and then transferred to French oak barrels for 15 months (67% new, 33% second use).
