Are these for humans or for chewing the cud?
Impossible to sensibly eat the chewy fibrous outer, so you must take out the three to four beans on the inside. On the plus side, they probably repel insect attack
Got these as a flash sale and had them yesterday with our Sunday roast. Just about enough for 3 adults. Cooked them in boiling water for 10 mins and they were just right. Have ordered them again this week.
I read the reviews of this item and all the negatives were due to the lack of beans to pods. People seem to have forgotten you only get around 3 oz of beans or every pound. One reviewer wrote they took ages to pod, around 5 to 10 mins and its a easy job to get small kids to help you with. These beans were excellent and great quality whether you single or double pod them. I would and do recommend them when fresh and in season. Maybe this helps 1 pound 450g is 45 - 55 beans, podded 1 pound 450g of fresh, unpodded Broad Beans is equal to 3 oz 90g of podded, frozen Broad Beans
Sweet Floury Fresh Broad Beans
These were lovely fresh broad beans with sweet floury centres. 230g podded per 500g or 4 average beans per pod. These were British - the product information only mentioned to be country of packing as UK so I presume the country of origin does vary. Only needed to be boiled for 2 minutes - and these didn't need to double pod them to remove the jacket. A good multibuy at 2 for £3.
So few beans...
only 50g of beans out of a 500g bag! not worth the effort that I had to put in to shell them.
averaged 2 beans per pod
I love broad beans and had planned them as a side dish for some salmon. As it turned out there were so few they ended up as a garnish. Very disappointing
