A British heritage ingredient, whose delicate sweet, nutty taste and clean, crisp texture is owed to the traditional growing methods and rich, Fenland soil in which it is grown. Fenland celery is part of an exclusive club of quality British foods that have earned Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status from the European Commission.
This special crop is only available for 8 short weeks... the advice is to get it while you can!
Growing Fenland celery is a true labour of love. Grown in wide rows with deep trenches, the crop is tended to using traditional techniques, including a process known as ‘earthing up' which involves banking up the rich, dark soil around the celery as it grows. ‘Earthing up' keeps the celery warm and protected from the winter frost - blanching the sticks to a distinctive pale white hue. Very mixed reviews here, but I must have got lucky. Really succulent and full of flavour. Every time I open the fridge Im hit with a strong scent of fresh celery.
A bit more rustic than your average celery but very tasty all the same.
Mine arrived quite damaged- about half of it was useable.
Best tasting celery I have had in a long time and grown here.
The description is highly misleading
After reading the description of this product I was expecting something special, something a little different from standard celery. Sadly this was not the case. Tastes exactly the same as any other celery. Dont believe the hype.
Premium price not premium quality
Mine arrived damaged, stalks broken near base, no idea if this was due to poor handling when picking, packing or transporting. The stalks I managed to rescue tasted bland, slightly sweet, the opposite of my expectations. I'll not buy again.
